been diggin on trikes a bit lately

part of this trike fascination is paranoia about an upcoming knee surgery. the same thing happened last january when i was recovering from my last knee surgery. i just have to accept the fact that eventually i'm going to be a broken and hobbled dirty old biker. kickstarts and supporting the chopper at slow speeds and stoplights may be things that just aren't in the cards for me 25 or 30 years down the road.

a well done trike seems like the only solution, and i've been brainstorming on the mental back burner for awhile now. this isn't a project i plan to start next month, or even next year really. if i do build one anytime in the near future it'll either be because i sold other stuff, or i'm building it for someone else. they do make good support vehicles on group runs if they're set up right...a grill, beer, tools, camping gear, and even a light trailer hitch can all be in the mix and not look too hideous if it's done well.

here's a few trikey pics i came across on the inter-webs. they're all good, bad, and ugly in one way or another. none is exactly how i would build a trike, but they all have aspects that i really dig. judge for yourself.

alot of ed roth's stuff is not my style at all, but this trike is pretty rad in my book. plus the pic itself is just really cool.

vw trikes can really go either way, very nice or awkwardly nauseating. while i don't love everything on it, and diggers don't really do it for me, something about this package as a whole just comes together well.

this is a decent example of a trike that's impressive without looking like it's trying too hard. it's an old harley, with 3 wheels, black and chrome, and it's got a great king & queen w/ trident sissybar combo. tried and true classics are always good reference points.

this is one of the more iconic trike pics out there. a variation on the classic with a rad stance and single downtube front loop. the smile on buddy miles's face really says it all.

if it has 6 wheels is it still a trike? i don't know, but i'd sure like to twist the wick on this thing a couple times! anybody have an idea what kind of insanity is powering that purple atom smasher?

gotta admit i'm kinda lookin forward to bein that dirty old triker someday. zbmc cut, artificial knee, white beard, and a catheter so i don't have to stop to piss every 10 minutes...i'll be rockin it till the lights go out!
